Colin Kaepernick Stars In Nike Advertisements

The photo above is from Colin Kaepernick's Twitter page.
Recently, Colin Kaepernick (former NFL quarterback) was hired to appear in Nike's 30-year anniversary of the "Just Do It" ad campaign. Nike featured Kaepernick in a photo ad which reads "Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything" over his face and in a two-minute video produced by Nike called Dream Crazy. Primarily, Kaepernick serves as the narrator for the ad, until the last few seconds where he shows up and says "So don't ask if your dreams are crazy. Ask if they're crazy enough."

If you don't pay attention to sports, aren't culturally aware, or been living under a rock for two years, then you know that Kaepernick was the first person in the NFL to take a knee during the national anthem to protest police brutality against African-Americans. When Kaepernick's contract with the San Francisco 49ers came to an end, no team would hire him. Kaepernick alleges in a case that NFL owners worked together to keep him from playing in the NFL.

So why is it a big deal that Nike is coming out in support of Kaepernick? According to CNN, Nike is the official supplier of NFL jerseys.

Nike's bold endorsement of Kaepernick is very much in character with their bold slogan "Just do it." There was a backlash on social media of people burning their shoes. However, according to Eddison Trends, Nike emerged victoriously with an online sales increase of 31%.
