12 - The Majority Report with Sam Seder

Image
The Majority Report with Sam Seder The Majority Report is a daily progressive podcast hosted by Sam Seder. The show is divided into two sections - one section dedicated to guests and another called the "fun half." The show focuses on current events and political affairs. While the show is very educational (guests are usually professors or journalists), the show is rife with comedy due to the ridiculousness of our politics. Imagine if Jon Stewart turned The Daily Show into a podcast. This show could only work as a podcast for a couple of reasons. One is that it is a very long show. Episodes can range from an hour and a half to three hours long. The second reason is that other platforms might not allow them to speak about specific topics. For instance, having a discussion on corporate wrongdoing is a big no-no on mainstream media channels because of advertisers. Episode from 11/13/18 (scroll to 19:50 for good interview w/ Professor John Sides of George Washi...

11 - Comparing Images

Image
For this assignment, I decided to switch things up and talk about three brands from different industries - tech, movies, music. Apple Apple is masterfully showing that you can take expert level photos with an iPhone camera. Images like this make me look at my iPhone in an entirely different way. The responses in the comment section are positive. Also, many companies could only dream of getting 234,479 likes. Gorillaz If you are not aware, the Gorillaz are a virtual band, meaning that the actual band members are replaced with fictional cartoon band members. Which makes this post on Instagram very clever, it is about 2D (the band's lead singer) being interviewed for the band's new album. It is brilliant marketing to pretend that these characters are real people. The reaction in the comment section mostly consists of fans of the band, so the response is going to be positive and the 153,033 likes prove that. Deadpool While Deadpool is a property and not a ...

10 - Apple (1984 Commercial)

Image
Why 1984 won't be like 1984 This Super Bowl ad started everything for Apple, and more impressively, Apple never shows the product that they are selling. The commercial is inspired by George Orwell's famous book 1984 . The video is of the character "Big Brother" giving a speech to an unemotional, obsequious crowd via television. Big Brother is the leader of this dystopic society and wants uniformity amongst everyone. However, a person, dressed differently from everyone else in the group, is running with a sledgehammer towards the screen that Big Brother is being projected on. During her dash toward the screen, she is being chased by the "Thought Police." The runner gets close enough to Big Brother, so she stops running. She then throws the sledgehammer at the screen which destroys it and ends the control Big Brother had over the crowd. After this, the narrator reads off the screen saying "On January 24th, Apple Computer will introduce Macintosh. And ...

9 - Polygon

Image
Polygon Logo found here . Polygon has a content-rich website . It is a news company that specializes in video games. Besides reporting on video game news, they do reviews, guides, and videos. The biggest plus that Polygon has is its incredible design. Every article has an image to compliment it, and there is no wasted space. Since video games mostly rely on visual appeals, it is fitting that Polygon's website did the same. If I had to describe the look of the site in one word, I would say it is blocky (in a good way). Clicking on one of their articles is as gratifying as a kid wanting to press the elevator button. Polygon also includes links to Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube towards the top of the page. The only criticism I have is that the search function is not as eye-catching as it should have been.

Introducing The ZipFactor Image found at Yanko Design website . When it comes to running, it hurts being number one. It's overwhelming enough to worry about the strain that running puts on the body's respiratory system; the last thing runners need to worry about is their legs giving out because their knees have been damaged.  Running for extended periods of time can result in tearing of cartilage underneath your kneecap; this condition is called  Chondromalacia or Runner's knee.  For the past year, the Zippy Shoe Company has been working on the ultimate remedy for this problem - it's called the ZipFactor, a running shoe with  a specially designed rubber sole that reduces stress on the knees by 25%, which is enough to fight off Runner's Knee.  The ZipFactor is recommended by 95 out of 100 orthopedists.
